AI clones of YouTubers: the new plague on YouTube denounced by Astro Recargado
The channel Astro Recargado, with over 362,000 subscribers, has published a denunciation video today that is spreading fast: according to the video, entire YouTube channels are being cloned with artificial intelligence.
What the cloning is about
The video, an excerpt from his show Astro Político, describes a practice that is becoming more and more common: creating channels that imitate a real YouTuber —their name, their image, their AI-cloned voice and even their thumbnail style— to publish videos the original creator never recorded. Viewers come in believing it is the usual channel, and the clone keeps the views and the revenue.
Why it is a serious problem
A voice is no longer proof of identity: today, a sample of just a few minutes is enough to generate audio that sounds like the original creator. For the audience it is almost impossible to spot the fake channel, and for the cloned YouTuber it means losing control over what their double «says»: from opinions they never gave to promotions of dubious products.
